Andre Gray's relief was clear to see when his first goal lashed into the back of the Swansea net last weekend, and the confidence within the Watford record signing likewise.

Five games without scoring would always take its toll on any new forward, especially someone with the a club-record price tag, but the 26-year-old looked a man possessed during the first-half of Saturday's win at the Liberty Stadium.

In his defence, Gray has not always had the opportunity to showcase why Watford parted with more than £18 million to bring him to Vicarage Road.

Regardless, head coach Marco Silva has noticed a new-found spring in his step since getting off the mark for the Hornets, but said he has never questioned the former Burnley man despite his early quiet performances.

"I think so, I’m sure," Silva said. "I didn't lose my confidence in him just because he wasn't scoring, though.

"And it’s not because he has scored now that I have more confidence in him.

"He didn’t score until then but he worked well. He tried to do his best and that’s most important to me."
