More than 800 people gathered to find out more about their emergency services.

Hertfordshire Constabulary and the Herts Fire Service joined together for an emergency serves open day for the people of Rickmansworth, which was attended by more than 800 people on September 23.

Those who attended looked inside police and fire vehicles, tried out breathing apparatus and had a go at using fire hoses, as well as watching a demonstration on how the servies deal with difficult incidents, such as car crashes.

Safer Neighbourhood Sergeant Neil Canning said: "Working alongside our partners to hold events such as this is a great way to engage with members of the community of all ages.

"We were really pleased with the turn out and hope to hold similar events in the future."

Younger people were also treated to a fun day out as they were invited to take part in a fancy dress competition, won by five-year-old Charlie Krikorian from Croxley Green who was presented with a family ticket to the Harry Potter studios.

Volunteer police cadets were also in force giving information about the scheme as well as the neighbourhood watch scheme, which were call people to sign up to the OWL (online watch link) and offer advice over crime prevention.
