Moor Park golfer Matt Wallace had to settle for a share of 59th place after ending the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship with a level-par round of 72 at St Andrews.

The 27-year-old had been among the leading contenders for the three-course Pro-Am event until Saturday when his challenge came to an end on the back nine at Kingsbarns, sliding down the leaderboard as he went from 11-under-par to six-under.

All bar eight of the 68 players who made the cut broke par in yesterday’s final round – led by runners-up Ross Fisher’s new record Old Course round of 61 – but Wallace made just the one birdie on the par four sixth, that coming immediately after dropping a shot on the par five fifth.
