Thieves have been targeting cars in a spate of crimes carried over one weekend.

The thefts started on Saturday, September 30 with one pair of glasses and two pairs of sunglasses being taken from a car in Whitehouse Avenue, Borehamwood.

Between Sunday, October 1 and Monday, October 2 a car in Hillside Avenue, Borehamwood had a sat nav, six CDs and an iPhone 6 taken from it.

The same night a car in Chandos Street had a purse taken from it, and car in Coleridge Way was targeted for science equipment left inside it.

At around 4.45am on Sunday, October 1 someone was seen trying the handle of a car on a driveway in Melrose Avenue, Borehamwood before making off.

PCSO James Gaitskell, from the Borehamwood Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “Did you see anyone acting suspiciously around parked vehicles in these areas between the times stated?

“If so, please get in touch as you may have information that could assist our investigation.

“I would also like to remind motorists to ensure that you leave your vehicle secure and remove any valuables from inside so that they are not easy pickings for thieves.”

Police also advise drivers to make sure their vehicles are locked with windows shut and keys taken out of the ignition when the vehicle is not being used, and to consider using a steering lock or gear clamp.

Keys should not be left insight or even near the door when drivers are at home, as it’s been shown that this still leaves cars at risk.

All valuables should be taken out of the car, including from the glove compartment and the boot. Documents should also be taken out, as if the car is stolen this makes it easier for thieves to sell on.
