Plans for more than 100 new homes in the centre of Watford have gone on display at two public exhibition events ahead of the submission of formal planning permission.

The scheme, proposed by development company GS8, will deliver roughly 150 new homes in St Albans Road, some of which will be “affordable” housing.

GS8 says its plans will transform the currently under-utilised 147 St Albans Road location – originally used as a brewery when it was opened in 1848 – and its adjoining sites.

As part of the plans the old station building will be completely refurbished, with the current proposals including an “artisan tap room” and exhibition space run by Pope’s Yard Brewery. This, they say, would bring the decaying listed building back into public use.

Watford Observer:

GS8 is also proposing car club facilities for up to 10 vehicles, open and available at a discount price to all local residents, not just those within the development which is located close to Watford Junction station. Each car club vehicle is expected to replace up to 20 privately owned cars.

GS8 director Ben Spencer said: “We would like to thank everyone who came to our exhibition events. We enjoyed talking with residents about our proposals and look forward to engaging further with the local community.”
