A couple will be taking to the streets to join in with a chilly challenge to raise money and awareness for the homeless.

Edward and Nicola Buckwald from Warren Road in Bushey Heath will be taking part in the Big Imagine Sleepout on November 17 to raise money for New Hope.

The event will take place on Fullerians Rugby Club, in Coningesby Drive, Watford and so far the husband and wife team have raised more than £3,200 for the cause.

The osteopath of The Abbots Langley Clinic and his wife have a target of £4,000 to help the organisation.

Edward said: “At first we weren’t sure how many people would be taking part, and the original idea was to get everybody taking part to raise £100, but we thought we would try in case the event was not popular.

“Now there are more than 100 people who have signed up, which is brilliant as the money will go a long way to helping.

“I am so proud of my wife, she has been the driving force behind us doing this.

“She volunteers there once a week and goes and makes breakfast for people. Nicola likes the interaction and listening to people.

“She also goes around to our friends and family to collect clothes or food to donate to New Hope.

“If we can raise money for the charity then that is great.

“These people have fallen unfortunate times and need a roof over their heads or a hot meal, it is important to help them.”

I just want to get on with it, and experience what it is like.

It will be a difficult, a eye opening experience sleeping in cardboard boxes in the middle of November although it will be different for us as we still be able to keep ourselves warm in a way that others cannot.”

New Hope is a charity that supports the homeless by providing accommodation and helping to change lives.
