A mini-Mary Berry in the making stole the top prize in a regional take on a popular cooking contest.

Nine-year-old Chloe Shiers from Watford whipped up a storm in her bid to become winner of the Great Watford Bake Off.

The competition at St Mary’s Church raised more than £1,000 on Saturday, October 7 for Peace Hospice Care.

The event, run in collaboration with Watford BID for the first Watford Food and Drink Week, saw more than 42 contestants get baking for charity.

Chloe won the over-all event with her spectacular showstopper, a stiletto formed of sponge cupcakes at the toe of the shoe, a gingerbread sole and biscuit straw making as the heel.

Chloe’s Mum, Sally Shiers said: “Chloe loves the Great British Bake Off so she really wanted to take part in the first Great Watford Bake Off.

“She loves baking and sparkles so it was easy for us to come up with the fun idea.”

Chair of Watford BID and one of the judges Kwame Tefe said: “I was delighted to be asked to Judge ‘The Great Watford Bake Off’.

I was astonished by the levels of skill and creativity shown by the bakers who entered, and I very much enjoyed sampling the delicious range of entries knowing that they helped raise vital funds for this much loved local charity.”
