An annual dog walk event will be held in honour of three fallen heroes from Watford who died while on tours with the armed forces.

The parents of Cpt Tom Sawyer, Cpl Chris Harrison and Pte Tom Lake will be raising money for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal once again after they were killed between 2009 and 2011 in Afghanistan.

The seventh Annual Remembrance Charity Dog Walk will take place around Cassiobury Park, in Watford, at 12pm on Sunday November 5, before finishing at the Remembrance Memorial by The Horns pub next to the town hall.

Sue and Martyn Sawyer, the parents of Tom, said the event combines the soldiers’ mutal love of dogs while also raising money for an important cause.

They said: “We started the Honour Dog Walk because we wanted to do something to keep the memory of our sons alive and both our Tom and Chris left behind much loved dogs.

“In fact their dogs join us on every Walk. We know too that our boys would have been extremely pleased that their mutual love of dogs helps raise not only funds but also awareness of the Royal British Legion and its work.

“Our Poppy Fund fundraising will be helped again this year by 13 year old Amy Martin of Francis Combe Academy. Amy was our most successful individual fundraiser last year and has already started fundraising for this year's event in the hope of matching her effort from last year.”
