A talented teenager is hitting all the right notes in a singing competition.

Fourteen-year-old Mitchell Winn from Prestwick Road in South Oxhey has made it through to the live final Factor EsseX.

To get to this stage in the contest, Mitchell has had to fight for his place at bootcamp and sing for survival in the six-chair challenge, in a regional spin on a television classic.

Finally he was chosen by Radio Essex DJ and competition mentor Chris Brooks, and now relies on votes from the public to make it through to the final held at the Arlington Ballroom on December 10.

Mother Angie Winn said: "The first time I knew he could sing was when he was nine were on a family holiday watching a singing competition when the next thing I see he is up on the stage belting out a song.

"He was walking around like he owned the stage with so much confidence that I didn't realise that he had.

"When we saw this we knew that he had something, that he was talented and we couldn't let that go to waste.

"He is also learning the piano, and every day when he comes home from school, he goes straight up to his room and starts playing music, he is even writing his own songs.

"I am so proud of him and it is great to see him performing at the Arlington Ballroom in Southend each week.

"He needs public support each week to get through in the competition, and so whether it is by voting on Facebook or by coming down to watch him, it all counts.

"This is definitely a path he will continue on as it something he is so passionate about."
