Brave volunteers can abseil down the side of a Watford landmark to help parents struggling to bring up children.

Every year, Home Start Watford and Three Rivers volunteers participate in the Snowflake abseil off Saint Mary’s Church.

The daring volunteers will descend 30m down the front of Saint Mary’s Church o November 18, with some of them wearing festive fancy dress.

Among the recruits are The Deputy Leader of the Three Rivers District Council Chris Lloyd, Nascot County Councillor Mark Watkin,

Hertfordshire’s High Sheriff, Will Hobhouse, is also participating and rumour has it, he will be wearing a very special outfit that is not to be missed.

The participants must be aged over 16 and raise £45 to support families who are assisted by Home Start Watford and Three Rivers.

Besides the abseiling, the annual Snowflake Market will provide more activities for local families to have a happy and healthy time.

The Snowflake Abseil and market will take place on Saturday November 18 from 10am to 4pm.

All this excitement will coincide with the Grand Opening of Home-Start’s new charity shop in Lord Street, off Queen's Road, Watford.

Home-Start Watford and Three Rivers has also received a donation from the National Lottery enabling it to support 168 families for the next four years.

The charity had its initial bid for its home visiting project to combat social isolation rejected, but rewrote its entry with help from the Watford and Three Rivers Trust to outline how it would help the community.
