We all went to Cuffley Camp or, at the very least, know someone who went there.
It’s a rite of passage – a trip to the Great Outdoors for games, bonding, camping, self-cooked food, lots of laughs and a healthy dollop of nature.
You learn new things, about yourself and the world around you. For many it’s the first time away from home and, while this can be a little daunting, it’s all rather exciting.
So news that the centre is under serious threat of closure is deeply upsetting.
And the inadequacies of those elected to represent the community and defend its cornerstones have struck a chord.
Those who know Cuffley should be sad. Those who know Cuffley should be angry. It is both a longstanding tradition and somewhere that should have a healthy future.
It seems as if Hertfordshire County Council has made up its mind.
But to everyone who knows how much the place means, we urge you to get behind the campaign to save it.
