Six cousins cycled 100 miles to raise more than £1,500 for a foodbank.

Alice, 10, George, 9, Elliot, 7, Emily, 7, Mabel, 7 and Ivy, 4, created the Secret Cousin Club in support of the Rickmansworth Foodbank

The children came up with the idea of a sponsored bike ride on October 24 following a “successful” cake sale last year.

They initially intended to raise £500 after hearing about how the charity provides emergency food and advice services for people in crisis from their Granddad, Michael Hamilton, who is a volunteer.

However, Rickmansworth Foodbank co-ordinator Iris Bangs was impressed to receive a cheque for £1,680 from the children.

Ms Bangs said: “The children did such a tremendous job. The money they raised will be a great help for us.

“In the last year the Foodbank has helped more than 1200 individuals with 3 days of non-perishable food, distributed 59 Christmas hampers across the district, given out more than £500 of fuel top up to gas and electric key meters and continues to provide free meals at its café.”
