People have been sharing their memories of a beloved children’s camp after its funding was removed.

The future of Cuffley Camp, an outdoor centre utilised by schools from across Hertfordshire, is under threat after the county council agreed to withdraw from its lease there.

This decision was met with fierce opposition from those associated with the camp, though there has been talk of an alternative provider stepping in.

Roy Parsons sent in a picture of his time at the facility with Kings Langley C of E School in 1945 and he expressed his sadness at the uncertainty surrounding a place that brought him and his friends so much joy.

“This was taken straight after the war,” he said. “We were mainly 11 and 12-year-olds and it was probably our first adventure anywhere.

“Here we are now in 2017 and I am still in touch with ten people in this photo who live in or not far from the village.

“At the camp we cooked our food on wood fires. It was all very simple but great fun. Although times were not easy back then they were happy ones.”
