Young musicians from Britain’s oldest specialist school performed for children at a church.

Year 6 pupils from Arnett Hills primary school listened to students from Purcell School, Bushey, perform the music of Liszt and Mozart at the Three Rivers Music organised event at Rickmansworth Baptist Church.

Ash Patil, who is the school’s chairman of governors and chairman of the music society, thought up the trip.

He, said: “It was wonderful to see the children enjoying what was, for many of them, their first classical music concert.

“They showed the younger children that even teenage musicians can reach the highest standards if they apply themselves and have excellent tutors.

“Just as importantly, the concert also demonstrated that classical music isn’t just for grown-ups.”

“I never knew that a young person could play like that.”

Purcell School has produced three BBC Young Musician of the Year winners.

Lel Seymour, a teaching assistant who runs the school choir, said: “They were incredible, and we had such a good conversation with our children afterwards about the music they had heard.

“It really reinforced the things we have been teaching them.”
