Taxi drivers defended the price of Watford’s Hackney cabs in November, despite them being among the most expensive in the country. Figures from trade magazine Private Hire and Taxi Monthly showed that Watford has the second-most expensive fares in the UK over a two-mile journey

A father who always dreamed of joining the Royal Air Force’s aerobatic team finally had his wish come true. Martin Pert, who grew up behind Leavesden Aerodrome watching the airshows, was announced as the new leader of the Red Arrows.

Campaigners spoke of fear that the “historical aspect” of an 18th Century listed building may be lost in a scheme to create 92 new homes and a supermarket. Developer St William Homes proposed to restore the site of the former gas holder site and the Grade II listed building Frogmore House, in Lower High Street, Watford, into new homes and a Lidl store. Antoinette Batten, who lives in Lower High Street, said the building should be “protected”.
