A care home banished the winter blues by holding a special ‘Spanish Day’.
Those at Rowanweald Residential and Nursing Home, in Weald Lane, Harrow Weald, donned their finest Spanish outfits and got the chance to try some of the country’s most well-known dishes as part of the unique celebration.
They also joined in a special arts and crafts session, designing Spanish flags and emblems to add to the festivities.
Activities leader Rosie McGlone said: “Spanish Day was such good fun. Our residents really enjoyed sampling the scrumptious food and we all felt a world away from a very wet January day.”
Her words were echoed by 87-year-old resident Elsie Meek, who noted how the colourful yellow and red outfits “really brightened up the day”.
The aim of the event was to “try something different” and help people forget about the bleak British weather.
Rosie, along with her colleague Elaine Rivers, have several more activities planned over the coming weeks to ensure that the home maintains a fun and active environment.
