A national DJ met a hearing specialist to raise awareness about getting regular hearing check-ups.

For 25 years, Radio 2 DJ Jo Whiley has been a well-known figure on the radio, but last year she was diagnosed with tinnitus, a condition that causes perpetual ringing of the ears.

She said: “I wish I’d protected my hearing throughout my career but I always felt that I couldn’t truly hear the music, so I never bothered. It’s made me realise just how important it is to protect your hearing.”

Audiologist Emma Handford at Watford Specsavers was photographed with the DJ after she got involved in the company's Listen Up! campaign during a photoshoot to make people more aware about the consequences of not getting regular hearing tests.

Ms Handford, said: “As a mum of four she’s keen to ensure her children look after their ears better than she and her husband did, as he suffers too.”

Ms Whiley is the most recent celebrity to join in support for the campaign, along with X Factor judge Louis Walsh and Spandau Ballet member Martin Kemp.
