On behalf of the residents of South Oxhey, I attended the latest meeting of the Community Board on Monday January 9.

It was a very well attended meeting including a large number of local visitors.

At the pre-meeting, Alison Scarth was re-elected as chairman and our local Trophy store man Rob Holland was elected vice-chair.

Among those questions were the type of shops that would be in the new precinct and Station Approach. Particular mention was made for the inclusion of a shoe shop and a clothes shop. Replacement of existing stores that would be moving on was also requested. In addition to LIDL we would expect at least one small food retailer. NISA /CO-OP and of course a newsagent to replace Wards.

My particular concern has been the lack of information available to residents of the continuation of the project. This caused some debate and I now accept that due to the complex nature of deciding the type of shops that would be available in the main shopping centre, plans can be changed from day to day.

However it was announced that we would be getting our notice board in the centre of the shopping precinct. Hopefully double sided with information regularly updated.

Another concern that I have, which is not the responsibility of Countryside or our local council, is the crossing point from the main shopping centre to Station Approach. I would appreciate readers coming forward with their comments.

My concern: There will be more shoppers needing to cross from the Main shopping centre to Station Approach. Possibly parents with a push chair and another toddler hanging on, the parent already fully loaded with shopping.

Should the width of the crossing be increased to allow for those with pushchairs or handicapped persons? Comments from readers would be welcome before the problem can be taken further.

Residents will have received the brochures sent out by Countryside showing their developments to date. I thought they were very impressive and this gives me the satisfaction that the final South Oxhey will be well received.

During my chat with a member of Countryside it appears to me that a lot of information on the progress of the South Oxhey Initiative can be obtained from the Countryside website.

I was shown all the information that was available but I leave it to you technological experts to sort out this website.
