A four-vehicle crash on the M1 southbound led to severe delays at the junction with the M25.

The incident, which took place at around 7am on January 16, caused delays of up to 90 minutes at junction 6A.

It resulted in queues of around 12 miles, stretching back to the junction for London Luton Airport.

A smart car, two lorries and another car, which failed to stop at the scene, were involved in the crash.

The silver smart car sustained heavy damage while a woman, thought to be in her 60s, was taken to hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

Officers would like to trace the driver of the car which failed to stop to ensure that they are ok and to establish exactly what happened.

Anyone with information should contact Hertfordshire Constabulary on 101, quoting ISR 83 of January 16.
