A police cadets group is looking to recruit more volunteers to help support the community.

The Watford branch of the Hertfordshire Police Cadets is reaching out to those aged 14 to 18 who are in search of “a new challenge” this year.

It explained how cadets learn about police procedures and the law, and play a vital role in community events, engaging with members of the public and educating them on crime prevention.

PC Kev Ball, who leads the Watford group, said: “Becoming a police cadet can be hugely rewarding; it’s a great way to learn new skills and make new friends.

“You do not have to have ambitions to work within the police force to join but, if it is a career you are interested in pursuing in future, then this is a great place to start.”

Specialist departments, such as the tri-force Armed Policing Unit and Dog Unit, give regular talks to volunteers.

There are also a host of additional activities throughout the year, such as white-water rafting, weekend holidays and summer camps, court visits and assisting with foot patrol at music festivals.

The group meets every other Tuesday evening and is open to anyone aged between 14 and 18 who lives or goes to school in Watford.
