Pupils quizzed an MP when he paid a visit to a primary school.

Hertsmere MP Oliver Dowden spent the afternoon of January 12 at Longwood School in Bushey, where he was given a tour of the school before taking part in a Q&A.

Key Stage 2 pupils listened as Mr Dowden shared his roles and responsibilities, as well as the challenges he faces as an MP.

They were also given the opportunity to ask him a series of questions, ranging from the MP's daily routine, to whether he aspires to be Prime Minister, and even if he has met the Queen.

Head teacher at Longwood School, Claire May said: "it was great for the children to hear about Mr Dowden's work, election process, how parliament operates, and democracy in action.

"Mr Dowden helped the children realise that even the most important people in public life are still real people having emotions, and even juggling work and family life like everyone else."

Mr Dowden added: "It was a pleasure to visit Longwood School on Friday and answer questions from the pupils. I was impressed by the pupils’ questions and how engaged they were with political issues. I also enjoyed my tour of the school and seeing all its classrooms and facilities.

"I am grateful to Longwood for their hospitality and look forward to visiting again."
