Extra police officers could soon be patrolling streets across Hertfordshire if the crime commissioner’s funding plans are given the green light next month.
David Lloyd is proposing to use the police precept used to pay for the service by an average of £1 per month from April.
He has been trailing an increase in the precept over last four months but a decision will be will made by the Police and Crime Panel on February 1.
Mr Lloyd explained: “I will use the government’s funding settlement flexibility of a £1 per month increase in the average household to spend on additional officers in neighbourhood teams across the county.
“There will also be an increase officers in the Operation Scorpion units and the force control room.”
Cllr Matthew Bedford, who represents Abbots Langley and Bedmond, is in favour of the proposals being brought into the area.
He said: "We desperately need more police officers to cut crime and make local people feel secure.
“However it appears that the Police Commissioner intends to use money for more specialist staff, but no more local officers.
“The Liberal Democrats will keep up the pressure to ensure that those extra officers are on our streets, visible to residents and keeping us safe."
