An artery road dotted with large pot holes is set for repair after a new start date was secured with council funding.

Cllr Asif Khan, who represents North Watford at Hertfordshire County Council, has been pushing for work to be carried out in Lowestoft Road for the past two years.

And while he believes it has been a long time coming, his is pleased to see that the necessary procedures will be carried out in February.

“This is an important road that connects people in Watford to St Albans Road,” he said.

“I’ve been critical of the project management, especially when they’ve had the money available, and, while it’s been pushed back several times, I’m pleased to see it finally sorted.”

Mr Khan described the condition of the road as “third world” and said that it is vital for important thoroughfares to be properly managed.

“Watford is one of those places where traffic is particularly condensed and things like this have to be done – it’s about time,” he added.

The repairs, which will be paid for out of Mr Khan’s Highways Locality Budget, are expected to take up most of the day on February 16.

The councillor has also pledged money to a charitable project aiding children and young families.

He has allocated £739 to the Lift Off! Project, which will be used to support a garden club. Members will learn a number of new skills such as sowing, growing, harvesting and cooking.

“I’m delighted to help this project carry out its good work and I encourage any community groups to apply for similar funding,” he said.
