Terrier to play Tintin's sidekick

A terrier from Oxhey is set to make his stage debut at the The Palace theatre, Watford, playing Tintin's faithful sidekick.

Poppy, a west highland terrier, was on Tuesday named the winner of Bone Idol, a contest to find a local dog to appear in the stage production of Hergé's Adventures of Tintin.

Dog owners in south west Hertfordshire were asked to send in pictures of their pets, for the general public to rate in comparison to the loveable Snowy the dog, Tintin's companion.

The final three successful applicants were then invited to meet with the show's director Rufus Norris and Matthew Parish, the actor playing Tintin, on Tuesday afternoon when Snowy was finally decided upon.

Delighted owner Rebecca Tournoff, of Oxhey, who had previously worked at the theatre, is proud of her dog Poppy won.

She describes Poppy as a: "Very friendly and lively dog who will say hello to anyone."

Poppy will appear on stage as Snowy at the matinee on Thursday.

Herge's Adventures of Tintin runs until Saturday, August 11.
