Watford town centre has a plethora of shops, restaurants and drinking establishments that attract hordes of people from all walks of life.

At different parts of the year there are also lots of events that take place along the parade such as The Big Screen on the Beach in the summer and also the ice rink during the festive period.

Soon the Big Wordfest will even be making a return to keep literary fans entertained as the weather starts to turn slightly warmer.

The council clearly makes an effort to ensure there is something for everybody, which is why it is important that the town is easily accessible for everybody - even if they have mobility issues.

However, the town centre is currently facing a major transformation as the roads are improved and the intu development trundles on.

People have complained they are struggling to walk around the town centre as the taxis are now parked too far away from the main shopping area and the pavements are blocked by the roadworks.

The works are carrying on until September but the council is keen to reassure people that alternative arrangements are in place to make sure there is still easy access, particularly if people require more support from wheelchairs or guide dogs.

The aim of the roadworks is not make the town centre a nightmare to get around, it is to ensure that the roads and pavements are smoother and wider for people to continue enjoying the town centre for many generations to come.

Perhaps in the meantime it is important to just watch your step while you wait for the work to be completed.
