The area around a popular hospital is set to undergo a £9.9 million facelift after securing support from a government fund.

Northwick Park Hospital and its surroundings will benefit from the money, which was donated by the Housing Infrastructure Fund.

The scheme is being run by Brent Council, in partnership with London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust, Network Homes and the University of Westminster.

It should see an improvement to the region’s transport links, as well as increased community facilities and the introduction of more affordable housing.

Cllr Margaret McLennan, Brent Council Deputy Leader, said: “We are at the beginning of an exciting and ambitious project which could deliver real benefits around Northwick Park.

“The major landowners, including the council, are set to work together to further explore ways to develop the site in a comprehensive way rather than each organisation working in isolation.

“Our collective vison is to secure Northwick Park's future by delivering a first class, modernised university hospital, improved transport links, more good quality affordable homes and jobs for local people.”

Initial proposals have suggested improvements to Northwick Park station could be included in the revamp, as well as infrastructural tweaks such as new cycle routes and footpaths and road junction improvements.

The green space in the area is classed as Metropolitan Open Land and is protected under the Mayor of London’s planning guidelines. This will be taken into account when any future proposals are made.
