A teenage ambulance cadet was awarded for her commitment towards helping to save lives.

Clara Noden, who lives in St Albans, has volunteered at St John Ambulance for six years and is set to join the adult volunteer unit now she is 18.

She has been a Grand Prior Award after studying 24 different subjects including first aid, communication and working in the community.

She said: ‘I am very pleased to have received this award because I have been working towards it for six years and so it feels like I have made the most of my time at St John Ambulance.

“It has given me the opportunity to try lots of new skills including radio communication and drill, and also take part in competitions.

“Whilst working towards it I was able to go on residential courses to improve my first aid and meet people across the district.’

Ms Noden is currently studying for her A Levels in Chemistry, Biology and Maths at St Albans Girls’ School and hopes to have a career in healthcare after going to university.

During her time as a cadet she has worked with other volunteers providing first aid cover at events such as the Virgin Money London Marathon and Slamdunk
