A housing development will bring more than a million pounds to a community.

Demolition work is underway to build 206 homes on the site of the former Harperbury hospital, near Radlett.

As part of the development, Bloor Homes will be contributing £1.4m to the surrounding area.

£1.1 m will be given to local education provision, £478,000 towards community libraries, £128,000 towards healthcare, £31,000 to sustainable transport, and £9,500 towards youth facilities.

The developers will also be supporting St Albans Rangers, who play at a site in Harper Lane, to help improve their facilities.

The housing site will comprise of a range of one to five bedroom houses as well as 72 affordable units, available for rent or purchase under shared ownership.

Senior planning director, David Joseph, said: "Our focus isn’t just on providing quality homes and extra facilities for the community. We are committed to ensuring that there are suitable systems in place to accommodate the additional homes, which is why we are also investing in measures such as sustainable transport solutions."

Bloor Homes plan for people to begin moving in, in 2019.
