Volunteers are being called upon to help clear up the streets of Watford as part of a nationwide campaign.

Watford Borough Council and its partner Veolia are once again backing The Great British Spring Clean, which will run from Friday 2 to Sunday March 4 and will be led by Keep Britain Tidy.

Last year’s campaign saw more than a hundred residents, school children, councillors and Veolia staff help clean up eight different areas of Watford.

Cllr Peter Taylor, who is responsible for Client Services and will be joining one of this year’s events, said: “We are very proud to support this fantastic initiative once again.

“The Great British Spring Clean is the perfect opportunity for residents to get active outdoors and help clear up any rubbish that you see.

“Don’t forget that you can borrow the litter-pickers free of charge throughout the year, not just in March so we can continue to keep Watford clean.”

Matthew Crane, senior contract manager at Veolia Watford, said: “The Great British Spring Clean campaign is a perfect opportunity to support our community and show that we are truly proud of Watford.

“It also sets a wonderful example and sends a message out to those who drop litter that this behaviour isn’t acceptable.

“We hope that this year’s clean-up will once again inspire many people to help keep Watford beautiful and litter free.”
