There must be an ethos today somewhere, with our over-populated cities, that says every new rail link is a good one.

It is no more so than in Watford: its burgeoning business, housing and gridlocked streets mean a public transport infrastructure - especially rail - which can cart hundreds effortlessly, is ever more vital.

As regards the Croxley rail link there is a huge demand posed by the residents of the proposed multi-storey blocks of flats along Ascot Road ; the Watford business Park; the Watford Health campus alone. then there will be vast numbers of daytrippers to the newly built leisure complex in the heart of the town. All which warrant a good rail connection.

Whether this need a be a link up with the Metropolitan line or merely a reinstatement of the spur line from Watford Junction which stopped just shy of Croxley - is a point of debate.

But whatever is decided, planners surely need to be aware of the knock on effect the huge influx will have on the already busy Watford Junction station.
