Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service has issued a safety warning after rescuing a man stuck on a frozen pond in the town centre.
Fire crews were called to The Parade in Watford, at 1.10am on Friday night, where they used a ladder to help a male who had become trapped on an island in the middle of the pond.
He was not injured despite the freezing temperature and snowy conditions.
A spokesperson said: “Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service would advise people never to venture onto frozen ponds and lakes, no matter how safe it looks.
“It’s impossible to tell how thick the ice is and how deep the water is underneath, and our advice is to stay well clear."
A ladder was used to resue the man.
