In last week’s letters page (Labour is in denial, Opinion, March 2) I really do not like the language Cllr Derek Scudder uses when he refers to the pre-2002 system of the selection process of choosing a new mayor as a group of councillors and party wire-pullers behind closed doors making the decision of who the new mayor will be for a term of office.
I can assure Councillor Scudder there was no wire-pulling or anything sinister going on behind closed doors when Alderman Finlay Mackenzie was selected by the council to serve as Mayor of Watford for his one year term of office with no salary from Watford Borough Council.
