People can learn about the area's historic link to the royal family during a guided stroll.

Anyone is invited to the event on Saturday, March 24, to find out more about Moses Cook - the head gardener to Arthur Capel, the 1st Earl of Essex.

Mr Cook laid out the forest in Cassiobury Park in the 17th century, before becoming a founding member of Brompton Park Garden.

The group supplied design expertise, plants for the King and many of the major stately homes of England.

Today, between Hempstead Road and the historic Cassiobury Park, royal roots have been removed to build residential housing.

The Chapel family, who once owned Cassiobury, ran into financial difficulties at the turn of the 20th century. Much of their grand estate was bought by Watford Borough Council to become the public park it is today.

The garden tour event will run from 2-4pm and is priced at £2 per walker.

To book a place, call 01923 727072 or e-mail cassiobury@watford.gov.uk. The secret meeting place will be announced upon booking.
