Deciding what career you want to pursue before you have even left secondary school can be pretty daunting - especially when you have no idea what you want to do with your life.

However, the Young Enterprise Company in Watford is aiming to let students know that it is okay if you don’t have your whole life mapped out before you’ve finished your exams.

The educational charity regularly visits various schools around Hertfordshire to equip young people with life, business and finance skills to help prepare them for the world of work and university.

Some of the workshops at the schools include CV writing and learning interview techniques.

Moira Tonge, who is on the Young Enterprise board, said: “It is so inspiring to see the future work generation evolve and move from strength to strength through the work they do with the charity.”

Students are also encouraged to take part in the Young Enterprise Company Programme to find out what is like to set up and run a business throughout a whole academic year.

The Young Entrepreneurs Company Programme trade fair took place at the Galleria in Hatfield on March 10 promoting students’ respective businesses and showing the public their “flare and innovation”.

Awards for Best Trade stand, corporate social responsibility and best overall student company went to a team from Watford Grammar School for Girls.

They wrote and illustrated a children’s book about a young princess from another planet, who comes to earth to learn real princess skills like kindness and equality.

Meanwhile, more than 40 Company programme teams across the county have now prepared and submitted their business reports, and team presentations were taking place this week as part of the first round of a competition which will culminate in 12 teams competing at the Company Programme Area Showcase on the March 27 at KPMG offices in Watford.

A team from the UK will then go through to the European Junior Achievement competition in the summer.
