A football club has announced plans for a new 6,000 capacity stadium.

St Albans City has released a proposal to build a new home in Noke Lane, between Chiswell Green and Bricket Wood, as part of a wider development of the area.

The proposed scheme was unveiled this week by Saints co-owners Lawrence Levy and John McGowan.

The Saints, who are vying for promotion in the National League South, the sixth tier of English football, currently play at the 3,700 capacity Clarence Park near St Albans City train station.

The club has high ambitions to play in the football league but its current site in Clarence Park doesn’t allow the club to develop.

Mr Levy and McGowan, alongside stadium manager Leigh Page, made a presentation to the St Albans District Chamber of Commerce, as part of a larger community development which could see a news village with some 900 homes built.

The new stadium will include an academy, banquet facilities, and a restaurant and bar.

Mr McGowan said: “This is an incredible opportunity not only for the club but the whole community.

“We want to be a thriving element within the city creating business and employment opportunities along with associated community benefits.

“This is our one opportunity, without this the club has a difficult future and if we pull this off it will be massive not only for the club of course but the whole community.”

The club believe that work could be completed by 2022, if permission is granted.

It is subject to being included in St Albans District Council’s local plan.

The development has been facilitated in partnership with landowner, CWC group.
