He has lived through two world wars - but Robert Munson has no idea how he got to the ripe old age of 104.

Robert Munson is the oldest resident of Burford House, Rickmansworth Road, Chorleywood, and shows no signs of slowing down.

The retired industrial chemist and Bristol University alumni served in the Civil Defence Service, providing first aid and support and driving ambulances during the Blitz.

He even found time to keep a daily diary in which he recorded the dates and times of the numerous air raids and the damage caused to many well- known factories and department stores in the West London area.

He gained a degree in botany and met his wife Marjorie in 1930 and they had 6 happy years of marriage before her death in 2011.

Mr Munson remained fiercely independent, and only agreed to take things easier and move into a nursing home last year, aged 103.

He still enjoys conjuring up various ways to exercise his brain and test his powers of recall, skills that continue to be as formidable as ever and he is always ready for a new challenge.
