A free school has appointed a new headteacher.

John Dibdin will lead Lanchester Community Free School, in Hempstead Road, Watford.

Mr Dibdin has been a headteacher of two local schools, the most recent being Mount Pleasant Lane in Bricket Wood.

He said: “Lanchester is at a very exciting stage in its growth and development and has an extremely promising future.

"These children will be at the forefront of the school's expansion.

"This gives a wonderful chance to create a school that is special and memorable for each of these children.

“The school has a unique opportunity to carve its reputation at the heart of Watford and become an integral part of the town, working alongside the college, sports centre, Watford FC and local businesses.

"I know the staff have already started to build some of those relationships, which is terrific.

"My aim will be to use those relationships as well as the skill and enthusiasm of the staff team, to ensure that the school becomes the best it can be and that every child gets an excellent experience in their primary school life.

"I am very much looking forward to getting to know the children and the rest of the school community.”
