A student-run orchestra is encouraging other like-minded music lovers out there to come along and support their summer concerts.

The Watford Youth Sinfonia will play a programme of summer shows on July 19 and August 25. 

The orchestra is entirely student led and consists of players from junior and senior conservatoires, members from the Watford School of Music and Hertfordshire County Youth Orchestra, as well as universities across the country.

Their events calendar is part of a thrice-yearly programme which usually occur around Christmas time, Easter and summer.

On July 19, the orchestra will play their 2018 Family Concert at Bushey Meads School at 7pm. They will play scores from many famous films including Star Wars and Pirates of the Caribbean, led by conductor Daniel Hogan.

On August 25 they will host a summer concert at St Michael and All Angels Church in Watford. Among their planned repertoire for the show they will play Stravinky’s, The Rite of Spring. 

The orchestra was founded in 2014 by conductor and artistic director, Daniel Hogan and grew from a relatively small chamber to 100 members. 

Watford Youth Sinfonia chairman, Ashby Mayes said that although the orchestra is at full capacity they will consider new talent.

“We would really appreciate your support to continue to run one of the most exciting and risk taking youth orchestra out there.”
