As it seems that the Metropolitan Line Extension (MLX) is not proceeding, people have been assuming that Watford Met Station has been saved.

Many readers will know that my colleagues and I have been leading a petition to save this station and we felt that written confirmation from TfL would be the most certain outcome.

We have received a reply from London Underground, which states that the station will not close until MLX is delivered and in service. It further states: “As the delivery of the extension is now highly unlikely, the closure of the station is highly unlikely for the foreseeable future”. We feel that we can now state that the Met Station is saved.

Additionally, we enquired regarding the current service levels of the line and were informed ‘no changes’.

I want to express my grateful thanks to everyone who signed.

Two very significant people were involved with me and I would like to thank them. Firstly, Lester Wagman, who started the petition in 2011. My other colleague was Michael Fish, who sadly died at the beginning of March. Michael was an expert on all matters regarding the Metropolitan Line and the backbone of our campaign. It was truly a privilege to work with him. One of our active campaigners wrote “Michael’s contribution will continue to live on after him in Watford Met Station”. We have much to be grateful to Michael for.
