Merrily We Roll Along

Merrily We Roll Along is an exciting show not often done on the amateur circuit because it’s a real challenge. The characters have to play themselves over 20 years with the main characters starting in their 40s when friendships have disintegrated, compromises have been made and their values worn away, and moving backwards towards an idealism that bound them in their 20s. The show has something for everyone, whether you are young and starting out in life, have been through your own tragedies or triumphs or are going through them now. With hits made famous by Frank Sinatra (Good Thing Going) and Carly Simon (Not a Day Goes By), it is considered one of Sondheim’s most accessible musicals.

An Evening with Simon Hooper

In his debut book, Forever Outnumbered, Simon shares his journey into parenthood, from being a 24-year-old man-child with no idea of what being a dad involved, to present day: the single male representative in a household of five women, or in other words: outnumbered. He describes his home as "the place where silence came to die". "It’s also where you’ll find carpets that are made up of 50% glitter and where there are more pink stuffed animals than at a colour-blind taxidermy specialists. But I wouldn’t change a thing.” This funny, informative and laugh out loud book is for uninitiated parents-to-be to those who know the ropes in families large or small. Join Chorleywood Bookshop and Simon Hooper to celebrate this incredibly funny yet emotionally heartfelt ode to modern family life.
