In July last year the Department for Education announced its intention to de-register and ultimately close the facility after the school was deemed “unsafe” for children following earlier Ofsted inspections.

It was also banned from accepting more pupils earlier due to child safety concerns.

However, the Trustees of Rudolf Steiner School Kings Langley have since announced that Martin Blain, who was previously deputy head and chief operating officer at Immanuel College in Bushey, will start as the new permanent principal in August.

He said: “I am absolutely thrilled to be appointed to lead the Rudolf Steiner School. I have always been passionate about the education of the whole child and I believe that this school offers the perfect balance between academic achievement and a nurturing, holistic environment. I am completely committed to the Steiner Waldorf Education model and my aim is for this to be seen as the perfect place to learn.

“I am committed to traditional values of hard work and respect but schools must be forward looking and need to challenge existing ideas in order to achieve the best and educate young people for the future.

“I have a passion for education and have taken huge pride in seeing my students flourish and grow. My aim is to create active world citizens who have the ability and determination to make a real difference.”

Mr Blain is a graduate of Cambridge and London Universities and Queen Elizabeth’s School in Barnet, He also has a Masters Degree after researching the factors that motivate school pupils to achieve.

Mr Blain trained as a maths teacher and has taught at an array of schools including Queen Elizabeth's Boys in Barnet – which was his alma mater - to inner city Islington and even two years as a VSO teacher in East Africa.

He also set up Alma Primary Free School in Whetstone.

In 2014 Martin was appointed principal designate at Harperbury Free School in Radlett.

However the school was unable to open because a suitable site could not be found and he went on to pursue school improvement work elsewhere.

Mr Blain will be taking over from Tim Byford, who had been the interim principal since last August.

Rudolf Steiner School is appealing its decision to be removed from the register.
