Media students have produced a virtual reality tour of a maternity wing as part of a new production company project.

Level 3 media students at West Herts College are in the post-production phase of creating a video showing the inner-workings of Watford General Hospitals’ Maternity Department.

The project, which began in March this year and was completed in April, has been undertaken by WestHerts Productions, a new company set up by the students.

The team includes Ben Hendeles (producer), Liam Edgeworth (cinematographer), Ntombana Moyo (director) and Jake Masterton (editor).

Their virtual reality tour, which is due to be released shortly, showcases the facilities at Watford General Hospital and what goes on in the maternity ward.

West Herts students were responsible for the entire process, from planning to production, and had to liaise with hospital staff prior to shooting.

Level 3 Media tutor, Jonathan Vianello, said: “Seeing the students taking on a large scale project like this one is extremely rewarding.

“It’s great that everyone is acting professionally and fully engaging with the clients.

“The fact that the students have communicated and arranged the whole process independently is incredible and I’m really proud of them. I’ve also seen the footage - it looks really promising at this stage.”
