Royal Wedding fever spread to residents of a care home as they settled in for a British tea afternoon to mark the occasion and raise money for charity.

On May 18, staff and residents at Montrose Care Home, on Langley Road, in Watford enjoyed tea, sandwiches and cakes in anticipation for the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, and to raise money for Alzheimer’s Research UK.

Watford Observer:

Union Jack bunting was draped about the place and people wore hats of red-white and blue, while others put on cut out face masks of the Royal couple. Residents and their guests enjoyed a range quintessentially British treats on fine china.

The B&M Care home and guests from the community decided to host the party days prior to the big event, before watching the ceremony on May 19.

Pauline, a resident at Monrtose, said: “The second royal wedding in a handful of years – it was such an occasion.

“And to be surrounded by good people and delicious food, well, it was absolutely wonderful.”

Gemma Johnson, Montrose engagement lead, said: “It was a fantastic celebration; an event that stimulated plentiful reminiscence surrounding residents’ very own wedding days.”

In the week leading up to the Royal Wedding, Montrose attended a Fundraising Luncheon at St Peter’s Hall, Watford in aid of Alzheimer’s Research UK: a community get-together hosted by Alexa Carter whose grandmother was a resident at Montrose.

Alzheimer’s Research UK fund research into curing dementia while providing support and services to sufferers and their loved ones.
