Parents have been banned from dropping their children off outside a school.

Anyone who is caught doing so faces the prospect of being fined.

A pilot scheme is being carried out following a number of complaints about the safety of children around Shepherd Primary School in Mill End.

From June 4, no vehicle will be able to drop off or pick up a pupil for the primary school and Daybreak Nursery within the new designated zone.

Restrictions will be in place during term-time from 8am-9.30am and 2.30pm-3.45pm.

Three Rivers District Council (TRDC) is piloting the use of a Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) after a public consultation showed a majority were in favour of the new restrictions.

Signs have been created showing where the designated zone is. Drivers who disobey the new rules could be issued with a fixed penalty notice and fined £75.

Instead of parking within the zone, vehicles should be legally parked outside of the zone, or at the William Penn car park, where a new path has been built to allow children to walk safely to the school, nursery or children’s centre.

Drivers are already restricted from stopping directly outside the school between 8am-5pm on school entrance markings during weekdays.

The PSPO will be monitored and enforced by council officers and school staff, according to TRDC.

Blue badge holders, residents within the designated zone, and visitors within the designated zone are exempt from the new controls.
