An afternoon of beer, music, and face painting helped raise thousands of pounds for a baby unit.

Hundreds of people enjoyed the warm weather and a selection of ales at The Rifle Volunteer in Oxhey on Sunday.

Organised by Mary's Boys, the day raised £3,500 for the Watford General Special Care Baby Unit.

Stewart Read of Mary's Boys said: "It was a great day with amazing weather. Loads of people turned out from everywhere including all our friends and family. We had guests ales for people to try and it was all for a great cause."

It is just the start of the mission to raise money for the unit with a group of friends planning on taking part in the National Three Peaks Challenge in August.

They will climb Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in England, and Mount Snowdon in Wales; all in just 24 hours.

They will complete their mission by cycling back to Watford from Wales.

Mary's Boys are raising money for the baby care unit. Gavin Brown's son, Harrison, was born eight weeks prematurely last year, and Gavin is a part of Mary's Boys.

The team originally set up in 2012 when founding member Lee Carter's mother Mary died from cancer.

A charity cycle ride from London to Brussels and the London Marathon has already raised thousands.

More than £40,000 has been raised so far for the baby care unit, Cancer Treatment Research Trust, and the Children With Cancer Charity.
