An event designed to introduce young people to the world of technology and a career in science or engineering is coming to the UK for the very first time.
ACI Worldwide is bringing its Coding for Girls Camp to Watford this month.
Aimed only for girls who are in Year's 7-9 at school, the software company has linked up with West Herts College to provide the free one-day event.
The interactive programme will offer a crash course in computer programming, including HTML and Java.
A series of these camps have been running for a number of years in the USA.
Melissa McKendry, vice president at ACI Worldwide, said: “We are very excited about bringing our successful Coding for Girls Camp to the UK. This initiative is all about getting girls excited about technology and teaching them about the opportunities for women in STEM-related professions.
“Historically, society has put more emphasis on boys when it comes to math and science subjects. Along with educating young girls about professions in STEM, our society and the parents of young girls need to be educated on the importance of including women in such professions.”
West Herts College, Hempstead Road, Watford, WD17 3EZ
Saturday, 9 June 2018, 9am to 1pm.
