A council is waiting for a court order be served before travellers can be evicted from a site.

At least ten caravans are forming an illegal encampment on land at the junction of Thomas Sawyer Way and Wiggenhall Road in Watford.

A legal notice was served on Friday and the council are now waiting to hear back from the court.

Mayor Peter Taylor said: “The council reacted very quickly to the illegal encampment, serving a legal notice on Friday night.

"We are now waiting for the court order to evict them. Working with the police, we are keeping a very close eye on the situation. I know that this is a concern to the community.

"I want to reassure residents that Watford will not tolerate illegal encampments. We are doing everything possible to remove the encampment as quickly as legally possible."

Travellers have also set up camp in King George Recreation Ground in Bushey. Hertsmere Borough Council is in the process of issuing a second removal notice after the caravans were moved on from land opposite Golf Close.
