“Potholes are a serious issue and they are constantly being repaired”.

That’s what Hertsmere MP Oliver Dowden has been told after he raised the problem with Hertfordshire County Council.

Mr Dowden said he has received a number of concerns from people across Hertsmere about the state of the roads.

He decided to call a meeting last Friday with Cllr Morris Bright; leader of Hertsmere Borough Council and deputy head of highways and environment at the county council.

Following his meeting, Mr Dowden said: “I know how frustrating this problem is for everyone using our roads, myself included, and it is something that is constantly raised with me by constituents.

“Cllr Bright assured me the Council are aware of how serious the issue is and explained that the bad weather over winter and spring have exacerbated the issue more than normal.

“He detailed though that the Highways Department is working constantly to repair them all as soon as possible and as your Member of Parliament I will continue to monitor progress over the coming months.”

Cllr Bright added: “It was good to meet with Hertsmere’s MP, Oliver Dowden, to discuss this very important issue of concern to residents.

“I am making representations at the county council and will be meeting with highway officers to see where work can be speeded up.

“I am aware highways have been playing catch up after a very bad winter, and I hope residents are noticing the remedial work that had been going on in recent weeks.”
