A popular pop-up shop will make an appearance at a community centre this weekend offering food at bargain prices that would have otherwise been thrown away.
The Random Café will be setting out a stall at the West Watford Community Centre on Harwoods Road, on June 16. Doors open at 1pm.
Random Café are a not-for-profit organisation who collect leftover food from various supermarkets and other food sources such as allotments and bakeries that would have otherwise gone to waste and sell it customers at a reasonable cost.
Food will be displayed for customers to choose from and then they just pay “what they feel it is worth”. Anything left over is given to livestock at local farms.
Watford café volunteer, Alex Murray, said: “Approximately two-and-a-half meals a week are wasted in the home by not knowing about simple things like sell by dates - food which is perfectly edible.
“The real aim is to reduce food wastage and to do so by donating back to the public. Anyone can come along and benefit from the organisation”.
The scheme is part of the #FeedBinsNotBellies campaign and Random Café rely totally on donations and word of mouth to get by.
