A prominent MP will host a tea party to mark one hundred years since an act of Parliament saw that women got the right to vote.

Watford MP, Richard Harrington, will give an EqualiTEA party at Oddfellows Hall in central Watford on July 13 to mark the centenary of the Representation of the People Act 1918.

All proceeds will go toward Macmillan Cancer Support. Doors open at 4pm.

Richard Harrington said: “The Representation of the People Act 1918 was a vital step towards the rights women have today, and the centenary of that Act is an important opportunity for us to reflect on our progress.

“That we’ve seen two female Prime Ministers in that time shows just how far we’ve come. But we’ve still got a way to go. “

“That’s why I’m encouraging residents across Watford mark the occasion and also chat about the issues over a cup of tea.”
